Gas Fireplace Installation

Proper Installation For Your Gas Fireplace

Gas fireplace installation is not an easy do-it-yourself project and there are some major things to consider before taking on this task.  It is rewarding and comforting once it is done but should be done very skillfully and carefully.  One can argue that there's nothing better than a crackling fire on a cold winter night.  And choosing gas is much better than hauling heavy wood into your home every night!  But be savvy and smart when it comes to gas fireplace installation as mistakes can cost you your home!

There are three major types of gas fireplaces you should consider.  The first is an insert which is placed where a wood burning fireplace once existed.  They can easily be vented through inserting a pipe into the former chimney.  This way fumes are sent outside and heated air is pumped into the room.

The second option to consider in gas fireplace installation is a direct vent fireplace.  There is no need for a chimney since this type of fireplace is vented through a hole in the house's exterior wall.  This type of fireplace is the most efficient. All the fumes are sent outdoors which keeps the air quality inside at an excellent level.

The last type to consider is the vent free gas fireplace.  These are also highly efficient and are designed to not need any type of ventilation.  Some do debate however, that since these are not ventilated, the air quality inside of the home suffers. But companies of these type of fireplaces have tested their products thoroughly and guarantee the quality of the air that is released into the room.

Remember that proper permits must always be obtained when installing any type of gas fireplace.  Also, most home owner insurance companies will require these permits should something happen pre and post installation.  And although many home owners will take on this type of project, it's highly recommended to contact an expert should you run into any issues.  It's usually a good idea to find someone before you start the project should you need their assistance quickly.  Be smart and be safe and enjoy the warmth of your labor.
