Propane Gas Fireplaces

Benefits of a Propane Gas Fireplace Over Natural Gas

When shopping around for a fireplace to install in a new construction or an older home, there is one important question that must be decided upon first.  The type of fireplace, whether it will use propane or natural gas is a big decision that a homeowner must make, but it can be simplified when taking a look at the advantages of using a propane gas fireplace instead of a natural gas fireplace.

The days of using a traditional wood burning fireplace are long gone, so it is necessary to consider if it is better to use propane or natural gas for home heating.  While both gases are quite reliable as they will both power a fireplace even if the electricity goes out in the middle of winter, it is a good idea to see what type of fuel would work best for the specific situation.  While there are many people who have natural gas hookups right in their home already or are nearby a gas line, most people do not have the ability to receive natural gas in a convenient way.  For this reason alone, it seems as though using a propane gas fireplace is a much better idea.

It turns out that the consistency of propane makes it easier to design more efficient appliances that use the gas over natural gas.  With so many people using propane gas fireplaces, it is often much easier to find this variety over those that burn natural gas at a less expensive price. Propane also gives more heat output per cubic feet so it is often the least expensive choice.

The other point to consider is that propane is not considered to give off greenhouse gasses when burned as natural gas does.  This is an especially important consideration for those who are environmentally conscious or who already have a green home and wish to keep it that way.  Propane is a non-toxic gas which does not cause environmental damage when it is released into to air.

When winter starts to come around again and the nights start getting colder, many people begin to consider how they are going to heat their homes.  While both natural gas and propane are good choices, it turns out that propane offers many more benefits and is therefore the better choice.
